Who are we?

Canford Publishing is an independent educational publishing company based in London and Oman. The company specialises in English Language Teaching materials that are region-, or country-specific. The company was founded in 2014, and the first publication, Start Writing, was aimed specifically at students in the Arab World. More recent publications are aimed at the global market as well as the Arab World. These are:

Founder

Richard Harrison

Richard Harrison is the founder and director of Canford Publishing. He is also an ELT author, teacher trainer and consultant. He is the author of Start Writing, Start Writing Sentences and Framework: Academic Writing and Critical Thinking.

Richard has worked widely throughout the Middle East in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE as well as Oman. He has also worked for the British Council in Russia as ESP Consultant and in Spain and Iran. Most recently he was the Head of the Foundation Year at the German University of Technology in Oman, until he retired in 2013 to continue writing and later to set up Canford Publishing.

Richard’s other publications include Keep Writing 1 and 2 and New English Please 1 and 2 (Pearson), Better Writing (Garnet) and Headway Academic Skills (OUP), courses which are used widely throughout the Arab World. He is also the author or co-author of schools courses for Egypt, Jordan and Libya.
